Dedicated Intrauterine Device (IUD) insertion service

Dedicated Intrauterine Device (IUD) insertion service

Crafter Health is pleased to provide a dedicated IUD insertion service, ensuring women have timely access to their health care options.

What is an IUD?

An IUD is a small, T-shaped device placed inside the uterus. There are two main types:

  • Copper IUD: A hormone-free device wrapped in copper, which acts as a spermicide.
  • Hormonal IUD (e.g., Mirena): Releases a small amount of progestogen hormone into the uterus, which thins the uterine lining (endometrium).

When might an IUD be considered?

  • Contraception
  • Menstrual cycle control
  • To manage gynecological conditions – such as endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding

Our IUD Insertion Service

To ensure your safety and the suitability of an IUD for your circumstances, our service includes:

  1. Pre-Insertion Consultation: An essential appointment with the inserting doctor, to discuss your medical history, assess suitability, discuss the process and address any concerns you may have.
  2. Insertion Appointment: During your insertion appointment, your inserting doctor will check your observations, answer any last-minute questions and ensure you are positioned comfortably. The insertion itself is a quick process, followed by a short period where you remain in the clinic for monitoring to ensure you feel well before heading home.
  3. Follow-Up Appointment: Approximately six weeks post-insertion you are required to attend an appointment to ensure the IUD is positioned correctly and to discuss any concerns.

The Doctors working at Crafter Health are dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care throughout the process. If you’re considering an IUD or have questions about this option, please contact us to schedule your pre-insertion consultation.

How much does it cost?

IUD insertion appointments attract a Medicare rebate like other GP consultations. Please see the fees page for further information.
